The Uber Android app will be updated with a new set of simplified privacy controls meant to help users manage their data and streamline the process of controlling what information is being shared with the company, the San Francisco-based tech giant announced on Friday. The changes aimed at revamping the privacy controls of the service encompass a number of tweaks and additions that will all start rolling out to users in the coming weeks, though it’s currently unclear whether the ride-hailing company will release them as a client-side update distributed through the Google Play Store or a simple server-side switch.

Regardless, the new set of privacy-oriented features will be centered around the Privacy Settings menu that will be added to the Uber Android app. Just like its name suggests, this upcoming section of the app will host all of the existing and upcoming privacy controls that Uber’s customers will be able to use to manage and control the data that they’re sharing with the company. The previously introduced “Remove Stored Contacts” command will be relocated to this section of the app, Uber said, adding that the same menu will contain options related to location data sharing and notification preferences. The latter feature is relatively self-explanatory as it will allow riders to control what kind of notifications are being pushed by the app, while the Location functionality will provide users with a degree of control over the type and amount of location data that’s being sent to the company.

Finally, the improved version of the Uber Android app will also boast a simplified account deletion process that will allow customers to delete their account without going through the company’s technical support. Note that the initial deletion isn’t permanent and can be reversed during within the first month, though it’s currently unclear whether all user data is deleted from Uber’s servers for good after that reconsideration period is over.
