Xiaomi Debuts Mi Band 2 Mi 6 Commemorative Edition

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi announced the Mi Band 2 Mi 6 Commemorative Edition, a limited edition of its popular fitness tracker that’s meant to celebrate the upcoming launch of the Xiaomi Mi 6, the company’s new flagship that’s scheduled to be officially unveiled next week. The Beijing-based consumer electronics manufacturer announced the new iteration of the Mi Band 2 on Friday as the company’s representatives took to its official Weibo channel to share the first images of the device. All promotional photos of the Mi Band 2 Mi 6 Commemorative Edition that Xiaomi revealed so far can be seen in the gallery beneath this writing.

The device itself is relatively similar to the original Xiaomi Mi Band 2 that launched in mid-2016, except its touchpad has the number six engraved into it, while the rubber straps that ship with the device are decorated with a print saying “Mi 6 Memorial.” No changes should be made on the software side of things, industry sources say. Xiaomi has yet to reveal when the Mi Band 2 Mi 6 Commemorative Edition is scheduled to hit the market, but the wearable will likely be released alongside the Mi 6 flagship that’s slated to be unveiled on April 19, meaning prospective buyers might be able to get their hands on the fitness tracker as early as late April or May. Likewise, while the new iteration of the Mi Band 2 will likely only be manufactured in limited quantities, it remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will opt to bundle it with its new high-end smartphone and whether the company is planning to retail it outside of its home country.

The announcement of the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 Mi 6 Commemorative Edition marks the second limited edition of Xiaomi’s latest wearable that was announced in the span of the last few days, as the company recently revealed it’s also making a special edition of the Mi Band 2 to celebrate its win at Red Dot Design 2017 awards. Regarding the Mi 6, the upcoming smartphone is rumored to sport a 5.1-inch QHD OLED display panel and be powered by the Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm’s first 10nm system-on-chip. Other rumored specs of the device include 4GB of RAM, at least 64GB of internal storage, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front shooter.
