As most of you probably already know by now, the Xiaomi Mi 6 landed last week, and the device does not sport a 3.5mm headphone jack. Well, Xiaomi has decided to shed some light on the subject, as the company managed to upset quite a few consumers by ditching that audio port. Xiaomi has released an official statement via Weibo (Chinese social network), and in it, the company said that they removed the 3.5mm headphone jack in order to make space for other components that were utilized in the Xiaomi Mi 6, like a bigger battery pack, for example. In addition to that, the company also needed to separate the charging interface and the data transfer interface inside of the phone, and Xiaomi claims that would not be possible if a 3.5mm headphone jack was a part of the package.
Now, it is worth noting that the Xiaomi Mi 6 comes with a Type-C USB to 3.5mm audio jack, which will let you use your existing headphones with the device, but you will need to use this dongle in order to make it happen. Xiaomi is not the first company to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack, not by a long shot, LeEco did it last year, and so did Apple. Luckily for us, a ton of companies opted not to do it, Samsung for example, and it remains to be seen what will happen from this point on, will other companies fall in line and remove a 3.5mm headphone jack, or will it survive after all. That being said, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is quite a compelling smartphone, especially if you’re in the market for a really powerful and yet compact flagship smartphone. This device packs in some serious specs, while it is made out of metal and glass, just like its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 5 which has been quite successful for the company.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 features a 5.15-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) panel, 6GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of native storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor, and a 3,350mAh battery is also included in this package. The device comes with a dual camera setup on the back, it sports two 12-megapixel shooters, and an 8-megapixel camera can be found on its front side. Android Nougat comes pre-installed on the phone, and on top of it, you’re getting the company’s MIUI 8 OS. The Xiaomi Mi 6 is coming to markets outside of China soon, though we still don’t have any specific details.
