Amazon's Echo Look Companion App Hits The Google Play Store

Amazon’s style-savvy Echo Look may still only be available by invitation but the device’s accompanying companion application for Android is now available via the Google Play Store. The device itself is billed by Amazon as being “everything you love about Alexa, but now she helps you look your best.” Perhaps more accurately, it’s an Amazon Echo device with a built-in camera and brand new machine learning algorithms. With the assistance of input given to the company by real-world fashion designers, those new tools enable it to be both a style helper and full-length mirror replacement. The companion app allows users to access the device outside of basic voice functionality and to get an idea of what their wardrobe looks like without having to crane their neck around, twist their bodies at awkward angles, or any other such nonsense usually associated with mirrors. Instead, the user can either simply issue voice commands or use the app itself to Alexa to get short videos and photos from every angle.

The application, which is also called Echo Look, is required to get the Echo Look smart home device connected to Wi-Fi and set up with an Amazon Account. In addition to that, the app acts as a portal for viewing the short videos and images captured by a device. Users can then use the app to access Style Checker to get a second opinion on their look with the help of the abovementioned A.I. software. Style Checker can also provide an opinion as to which of two outfits look the best. Those looks can also use the app to save favorite looks so that they’ve always got a reference guide for which of their outfits really worked for them.

While some may be able to get their hands on one of Amazon’s latest smart home devices, most can’t since getting one is by invite only for now. That said, the app’s release may mean it will be available soon, at least for those who have managed to get an invite. In the meantime, anybody can check it out the app for themselves via the Play Store in the link below even if it won’t really be able to do a whole lot for them yet.
