BLU’s latest handset, the BLU Studio J2, has just passed FCC certification. The documents submitted by BLU for the certification shows that the device will only support GSM and UMTS networks, so owners of this handset should not expect to experience fast mobile data with LTE speeds. However, the devices can still be used to access the internet in homes or public spaces with Wi-Fi hotspots since it will have support for 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. In addition, BLU Studio J2 has Bluetooth Low Energy support for wireless peripherals and data transfer and GPS for navigation and location purposes. Based on the specs of this smartphone, it is possible that this device is targeted towards users looking for a secondary device.
Aside from the test results of the BLU Studio J2, the user manual containing screenshots of the device’s UI was also released on the FCC’s website. Based on the screenshots, buyers of this handset should expect a user interface that is close to stock Android, retaining many of the key elements of the operating system’s Material design like on-screen navigation buttons and the notification shade. Looking into the design of the notification shade and the lack of quick settings bar, the BLU Studio J2 may not sport the latest version of the Android operating system. It is not unexpected, given that some recent devices from BLU shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Other software components of the BLU Studio J2 like the contacts and messaging apps sport designs close to stock Android, and installed in the device are NextRadio, which serves as the phone’s FM radio app, and a file manager.
Additionally, the BLU Studio J2’s FCC listing includes some images of the device’s hardware. Based on the pictures, the BLU Studio J2 will have dual-SIM card slots, allowing users to connect to two networks at the same time. It will also have a micro-SD card slot to give users the option to expand the internal storage of the smartphone. A micro-USB port is found at the bottom of the device, presumably for data transfer and charging. There is no information yet on the availability of the smartphone or the pricing, but given the FCC certification the device launch may be coming soon.
