BodyGuardz Shock Case for Samsung Galaxy S8 Review

BodyGuardz has another pretty interesting case for the Galaxy S8, this is their Shock case and it’s a hard case that will add quite a bit of protection to the Galaxy S8. And after paying over $750 for the Galaxy S8, that’s definitely worth protecting. This is a hard case with impact protection. So if you drop the Galaxy S8, it’s more than likely that the Shock case will take the majority if not all of the damage from the fall. The Galaxy S8’s case is a bit thicker than some may like, but it does add plenty of protection which is important.

The Shock case is available in black, and it looks pretty nice on the Arctic Silver Galaxy S8 that we have here. The backside has a bit of a rugged texture, which makes the Galaxy S8 easy to hold onto, which is important since the Galaxy S8 is already pretty slippery. It’s also pretty plain, so you aren’t paying for any fancy design here, like you might get with some other cases on the market. All that you’ll see on the back is the BodyGuardz logo at the bottom.

One thing that I do not like about this case, and probably the only thing to hate about this case, is the buttons. Instead of making the buttons a bit softer, BodyGuardz has added just a symbol for the volume and power buttons. And it makes it tough to press these buttons. For example, the volume buttons are just a simple + or -, Bixby is a diamond then the power button is the typical power symbol. It makes it tough to press these buttons, and while we won’t be using these buttons that much (except maybe the power button) it can still be a bit of a nuissance. Now, BodyGuardz does have cut outs for the USB-C, headphone jack and speaker at the bottom. So there’s no issues with plugging in your headphones or your charger to charge up the Galaxy S8. There’s also a cutout on the back for the camera and fingerprint sensor modules. This makes it easier to use the fingerprint sensor, especially on the smaller Galaxy S8. Since Samsung did opt to put it next to the camera instead of below it like most other smartphones do.

The BodyGuardz Shock case does look pretty stealthy on the Galaxy S8, and if you’re into that look, then this is a great case. Or if you are looking for a rugged case, then this is a good one to check out. But not being able to press the buttons on the side of the Galaxy S8 is going to be a pretty big deal for most people. Not it is likely that these will become easier to press over time, but we have had this case on our Galaxy S8 for a few days, and they haven’t eased up at all. But for those that might be clumsy and drop their smartphones a lot, this is definitely worth picking up. BodyGuardz has drop tested this case, and it does meet military standards. So those looking for that peace of mind to keep their Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus safe will want to check this one out.

BodyGuardz Shock is available on Amazon, priced at $34.99 for both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus models. They are only sold in black and are eligible for Amazon Prime, so you can get them in your hands pretty quickly to protect your brand new Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus, which is definitely important. This is a good case for the Galaxy S8, but perhaps not the best case, of course this all depends on your needs and preferences.
