Brandeis PROMETHEUS Is A Luxury Phone For $800

Brandeis is putting out a new smartphone called the PROMETHEUS that promises to bring luxury device sensibilities to the $800 price point, with future proof specs to match. The phone is called the Lamborghini of smartphones by its creators, and it’s not hard to see why. That design isn’t just beautiful, though, it’s also practical. The PROMETHEUS is made to be durable and stay cool even when running high-power apps. The phone sports some future-proof specs, on top of its unique design, which make it worth at least a second glance for those who are in the market for a new smartphone and have some cash to blow. The first 1,000 pre-orders will even see that $800 price tag cut in half, putting it in the same camp as high-end budget numbers like the OnePlus 3T. Those who want to give the phone a whirl and don’t like it can return it risk-free within 30 days. Pre-orders are set to start in the next few weeks.

The front of the device bears a panel of Gorilla Glass 5, which Brandeis claims is shatterproof. That oddly shaped panel is 6 inches in total, but .5 inches of that is devoted to a secondary screen a la the LG V20. The 5.5 inches left over has a 4K panel underneath, for an extremely VR-friendly 801 PPI. Samsung created a similar panel not long ago, but Brandeis does not indicate whether that’s where they got this display. Go around the somewhat chunky device’s 2.5D edge screen and metal side panel, and you’ll find yourself staring down 8 LEDs arranged in an octagon around the dual rear cameras. The device bears dual SIM slots, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port. The second SIM slot can also be used for a MicroSD card.

The device’s looks aren’t the only thing that sets it apart; it boasts 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, running alongside the same extremely powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip that powers the Samsung Galaxy S8. A 3,500mAh battery keeps the lights on, and can take advantage of Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 for speedy top-ups. On the build quality front, the PROMETHEUS sports an IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. Dual 12-megapixel selfie cams, a piezoelectric speaker, and a fingerprint scanner-equipped home button round things out around front, while the two cameras on the back of the device are also 12-megapixels each. The whole experience is tied together by pure Android, with a few extra features, that should receive updates right alongside the Pixel lineup.
