Cricket Wireless is upping the available data on its $40 plan to 4GB tomorrow which means that subscribers of the network will be getting more 4G LTE internet to use each month without having to pay more money for it. What’s more, is that the $40 plan is only $40 if you don’t have the autopay feature set up. For those that choose to add autopay to their account, the plan drops down to $35, though this is something that is not new as Cricket was offering this before.
Customers who are already on the $40 plan won’t have to initiate any changes to their plan or account to get the free data increase as Cricket is simply making it available on their next billing cycle following this official announcement. Having said that, anyone whose bill cycle is still a couple of weeks away won’t see the 4GB of data being made available until then, so anyone who is running low will want to make sure they watch their internet use and adjust accordingly while they’re not connected to Wi-Fi. While customers won’t have to do anything to get the 4GB of data but wait till their next billing cycle, there are some details about it worth noting, which is that the 4GB of data reaches a maximum download speed of 8Mbps on LTE, and 4Mbps on 4G. After that the speeds are reduced to 128kbps, so watching your data limit is strongly encouraged if you tend to come close, especially if you aren’t keen on slow internet.
In addition to the data increase to 4GB each month for subscribers on the $40 plan Cricket is also offering plenty of deals on smartphones that are either free or are being brought down to a discounted price. There are nine total phones that Cricket has listed here which includes the Alcatel Streak, ZTE Sonata 3, Samsung Amp 2, and LG Fortune for free when customers port their number over to Cricket, as well as the LG Escape 3, Samsung Amp Prime, LG X Power, LG Stylo 2, and the Alcatel Idol 4 which will cost $19.99, $29.99, $49.99, $79.99, and $129.99 respectively. To get these discounted prices customers will also have to port their number over to Cricket, so these won’t be available new or existing customers who aren’t bringing a number over.
