ecobee4 Smart Thermostat Now Available for Purchase

The ecobee4 was announced earlier this month, and the company began taking pre-orders a few weeks ago through Amazon. Now the ecobee4 has launched, and is priced at $249, making it very competitive with Nest’s Learning Thermostat, which has long been the hallmark of smart thermostats. One of the big new features that is available in the fourth-generation ecobee thermostat is Alexa integration. Now it was available before, but it wasn’t as deeply integrated. Now with the ecobee4, you’ll be able to tell Alexa to change the temperature in your home, without even getting off of the couch. Definitely a nice feature to have.

ecobee4 doesn’t work with just Alexa either, it also has support for Apple’s Homekit, Samsung’s SmartThings as well as IFTTT so you can automate what your thermostat does and when it does it. Of course, there’s also an app for Android and iOS that allows you to control the thermostat even when you aren’t home. With the pretty large display on the ecobee4, you’ll be able to see the current temperature outside, which can help you adjust the temperature inside and save a bit on energy costs. Speaking of energy costs, ecobee says that this thermostat will save you about 23% in energy costs each year. Which is nothing to sneeze at. It’ll help you save money, and also do your part in the fight against global warming.

This thermostat, like most smart thermostats, is pretty easy to install. It does come with instructions to help you out, as well. But it only takes a few minutes to get things up and running. Now if you don’t think you can handle the install, Amazon is also offering up professional installation service for $100. Which is a bit expensive, but it is better than buying something and having no idea how to install it. The ecobee4 is available on Amazon right now, it costs just $249, which is the same as most other smart thermostats. Currently, Amazon lists the ecobee4 as needing an extra day or two to process, that is likely just some launch day issues for ecobee4, and everything should be worked out soon. It is Amazon Prime eligible, so you can have it at your home within a couple of days, and if you don’t have Amazon Prime, you can still sign up for a free 30 day trial (students get 6 months free, then Prime is half off – $49).
