Essential had introduced several products yesterday, including the Essential Home, which Andy Rubin actually talked about during the Code Conference 2017. The Essential Phone was the main product Essential announced yesterday, but in addition to that, the company also introduced the Essential Home, which is the company’s first Home device, and a direct competitor to the Amazon Echo and Google Home. Having said that, Andy Rubin confirmed during his interview, that the Essential Home will be able to run Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant, which is quite interesting.
Mr. Rubin said that he would like for the Essential Home to run all three aforementioned virtual assistants, and he also added that the company is focusing on what consumers want, which is why the Essential Home will be able to run all three assistants we’ve mentioned earlier. Andy Rubin added that companies need to let consumers decide what they want to use, and that every company which limits their product to only one virtual assistant software will fail. For those of you who do not know, the Essential Home actually runs Ambient OS, which is an operating system designed for smart homes. Ambient OS will be open source, and will follow a similar development as Android, confirmed Mr. Rubin.
Now, as far as the device itself is concerned, it looks quite interesting, as it sports a rather sizeable display on top, and it’s very well designed, at least based on the images we’ve seen thus far. When asked about the release date for the Essential Home, Andy Rubin did not have any info to share just yet, though we do know that the Essential Phone will start shipping next month. All in all, we do not have all that much info when it comes to the Essential Home, aside from what we’ve talked about in this article, but more info will probably surface in the coming weeks, and this device is also expected to go on sale in the near future, all in all, we’ll do our best to let you know as soon as some additional info pops up, as per usual, so stay tuned.
