Merkury Innovations’ sub-brand Geeni yesterday announced the inclusion of Google Assistant support for its lineup of smart plugs and smart bulbs, similarly to how some of the company’s products are already integrated with Amazon’s Alexa. The firm is also launching a new smart surge protector that supports the Google Assistant for $39.99, available today on the company’s website and in brick and mortar stores of its retail partners in the United States.
Geeni’s range of products now offering Google Assistant integration includes the Lux Series of light bulbs priced at $24.99-$29.99, as well as the Prisma Series LED bulbs featuring customizable white or color settings for the price of $24.99-$34.99. Additionally, the Energi Series smart plug and energy meter now also supports the Google Assistant, and the company is expanding its product portfolio with the aforementioned Geeni SURGE smart surge protector lineup available for purchase starting today. The Geeni SURGE can be connected to a single wall outlet and is equipped with four plugs and four USB charging ports. Each plug can be controlled individually either through the dedicated Geeni application or using the Google Assistant. In practice, Geeni’s integration with the Google Assistant gives users the ability to control their lights and plugs directly or by issuing voice commands to Google Assistant-enabled devices such as the Google Home smart speaker. In addition, according to Category Manager at Merkury Innovations, Sol Hedaya, the Geeni line of products works with existing, regular Wi-Fi networks, meaning that prospective buyers won’t have to invest in a smart home hub in order to have control over the Geeni ecosystem. Users also have the ability to control each Geeni smart device individually or can control multiple devices in a group at the same time.
The brand new Geeni SURGE protector along with other Geeni smart home products can be purchased online via the company’s official website. Additionally, Geeni products are also available in the United States through Best Buy, as well as Home Depot, and should soon be available on Amazon. While the integration with the Google Assistant is a novelty for the Geeni ecosystem, the company’s smart products can always be controlled on smartphones lacking Google Assistant integration, as long as they are compatible with Geeni’s Android app.
