Google Allo is getting an update today and one which brings with it a number of new and/or improved features. At the moment, firm details on the features have not been announced, as the confirmation came in tweet form by Amit Fulay, who heads up the Allo and Duo division over at Google. However, the features detailed will likely need very little explaining as they are rather self-explanatory. Fulay has confirmed that following today’s update, Allo users will be able to make use of incognito mode for group chats. An expansion of the already-available single chat feature to chats which include multiple people. Which should prove useful for those who want to keep their group dialogues private. Along with the confirmation, Fulay also released an image showcasing how the incognito feature will work, with users able to set the chat expiration date.
In addition, Allo is adding the ability for chats to be backed up when needed and as you might expect, restored again when needed. Both the backup and incognito features are ones which had been expected, at they had shown up in earlier reports based on previous versions of the app. Closing out the list of confirmed features with this update, is link preview. This again is another straightforward feature which will allow users to see a preview of a link when it is pasted into a chat. Saving the user having to click through if they don’t particularly want to. Or of course, further piquing the interest of the user to click through.
As mentioned the update is now in the process of rolling out and is also showing up on the Google Play Store. Although the Play Store listing does not specifically detail these new features, it does point out that with today’s update you should expect a number of the usual bug fixes and performance improvements to be included. If you have yet to give Google Allo a try, then you can download the latest version of the app by heading through the link below. Those with the app already installed, should see the latest update arriving soon enough, if they have not already.
