The Image Search functionality of the Google Android app now supports filtering results by image formats and color filters. The change was noted by one user of the app on Saturday and was seemingly rolled out as a server-side switch seeing how the Mountain View-based tech giant didn’t push out a new software update on the Google Play Store since Thursday. Regardless, the new feature is reportedly live in all parts of the world and works just like the functionality that Google introduced to its desktop Search in early 2016; users who perform an Image Search within the Google app will now be presented with a scrollable toolbar located immediately beneath the main Search type bar that allows them to switch between regular Search, News, Images, Videos, and Maps. The newly introduced section of the app is populated by a number of keywords that can be tapped in order to filter image results by file types like GIFs and clip art. Those elements are followed by a wide variety of colored buttons for refining one’s search results based on specific color filters.
The Internet-owned company will likely officially announce the new addition to its popular Android app next week seeing how the firm already promised to include them back in 2016, but the feature itself is relatively straightforward and doesn’t require extensive explanations.
