Google Assistant's Typing Feature Now Has A Suggestions Row

Google Assistant’s typing feature now has a suggestions row that can better “assist” in finishing your queries. Just like with Gboard and other keyboard applications, Google Assistant can suggest words and phrases to help you finish a question or a sentence before sending it off with the new keyboard capability that Google announced and launched recently at Google I/O this past week. As a side note, that’s a pretty quick turnaround for an update to a new feature that was just added less than a week ago.

The new search phrases seem to vary from user to user, though it also doesn’t seem to be limited to search phrases and includes actions as well. For example, it’s been reported that a search phrase has popped up that would allow users to ask what the temperature was, while in the image above you can see that the action phrase came up that would tell Google Assistant to “Play Rise Against.” This is something I personally asked Google Assistant to do for me yesterday and this morning, so it seems that the new phrases may have something to do with past queries and action requests from a personal standpoint, which also makes this somewhat unique from user to user.

For those that like to be as efficient as possible this new feature for the Google Assistant keyboard interaction makes things a little bit quicker. While speaking to Google Assistant and asking it to play a certain band to get the music going is fairly quick in its own right, typing the same request can be a little slower even if you’re someone who types fast. With these new completed phrases though all the user needs is a simple tap to fill out the request and then to hit the send button to complete it. Google Assistant will of course take over from there and either answer your questions or complete the actions you give it. After some limited testing it doesn’t seem like there is a rhyme or reason to when these phrases will actually surface as they aren’t showing up every single time the Google Assistant keyboard option is opened, but it’s also possible that the more Google Assistant is used the more often these will show up.
