Google Celebrates Star Wars Day With Stats & Discounts

May The Fourth is upon us, and Google is celebrating in the most Googly way possible; by crunching Star Wars-related numbers and offering discounts on Star Wars goodies in the Play Store. Google took to their blog to commemorate the occasion, offering up insights on the most popular Star Wars content on the Play Store. In addition to the rankings, Google is offering discounts on in-game content for Star Wars Pinball 5, the collectible-centric Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, and the fairly competent MOBA, Star Wars: Force Arena. There are even some discounts on Star Wars items in the Play Store itself, such as Return of the Jedi being $14.99 rather than $19.99. There are also Star Wars-themed playlists on Google Play Music.

The Force Awakens took the top spot for most downloaded Star Wars movies on Google Play, followed by Rogue One, then A New Hope, then The Empire Strikes Back,  and finally Return of the Jedi. On the game side of things, Galaxy of Heroes won out, with LEGO Star Wars Yoda II hot on its heels, and Star Wars: Force Arena, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Star Wars: Commander bringing up the rear. Coming around to books, Aftermath: Star Wars got the most downloads, followed by The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Darth Vader Volume 1 – Vader, Lords of the Sith: Star Wars, and finally, Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel.

Outside of the Play landscape, Google is also celebrating Star Wars Day with an easter egg hidden in Android Pay, among other things. Past celebrations included things like a special John Williams radio on Google Play Music and sales on Star Wars goods. They haven’t been the only ones lauding the George Lucas masterpiece on its birthday, of course; others have been doing cool things like creating real life Holochess in the past. Strangely, it seems that there is no Star Wars Google Doodle this year. Even so, there are tons of ways to celebrate Star Wars Day, and snapping up discounts on Google Play is a fairly good one. You could snap up all the movies on Google Play and marathon them, find Star Wars video game discounts online, or grab a Star Wars game from the Play Store and play the day away. However you might choose to celebrate, May The Fourth be with you.
