HTC Teases "360 Real-Life Recording" for Upcoming U 11

HTC is set to announce the U 11 smartphone next week at an event in Taiwan. Which means the company is gearing up their hype machine and is teasing some new features for this smartphone right now. The latest tease comes from their Twitter account, and shows a short video and mentions “360 real-life recording” along with the date for the announcement and the #BrilliantU hashtag, which is the hashtag they’ve been using to tease this new smartphone.

Now this could be interpreted a few different ways, but many people are guessing that the U 11 will have the ability to do 360-degree recording without having to plug anything into your smartphone. Which would be a big deal for HTC, seeing as no one else has done this so far, and with Vive becoming a big deal for the company, it makes sense to add the ability to shoot 360-degree video (which you could watch in Vive) with their latest smartphone. Now of course, you’d need some great cameras on the U 11 to actually make this possible. And rumors has it that the HTC U 11 is going to sport a 12-megapixel camera on the back with a f/1.7 aperture, along with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. Which combined, should offer up some good 360-degree cameras, as long as HTC has worked on the software.

The HTC U 11 appears to be a pretty impressive flagship for HTC, but it’s a bit odd that it’s being announced the day before Google I/O next week. The device is going to pack all of the usual suspects, like a 5.5-inch QHD display, the Snapdragon 835 chipset along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, not to mention the 3000mAh battery inside. The HTC U 11 is also going to have some kind of functionality that allows you to squeeze the phone for different tasks. And now this 360-degree recording feature, which is definitely going to catch the eyes of virtual reality fanatics out there. Of course, HTC will announce all of the details of this smartphone next week at their event in Taiwan on May 16th, there’s no word yet on when the device will actually be available.
