Huawei had introduced the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone at the beginning of last month, and its sibling, the Huawei Y6 2017, has just been (silently) announced as well through Huawei France website. Much like the Huawei Y5 2017, this is a Huawei’s budget offering, and the two devices actually look almost identical, and to make things even more confusing, they’re almost identical in the spec department as well. So why did Huawei introduce two devices which look the same, sport the same display sizes and share almost every spec on the inside? Well, we don’t know, but let’s see what the Huawei Y6 2017 has to offer, shall we.
The Huawei Y6 2017 is a direct successor to the Huawei Y6, which was announced in July 2015. This handset does not come with a fingerprint scanner, and all of its physical buttons are placed on the right. The company’s branding can be found on both the front and back side of this phone, and the device ships with a single camera on the back, along with a dual-LED flash. The Huawei Y6 2017 sports a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. The device is fueled by the MediaTek MT6737T 64-bit quad-core processor, and it packs in two SIM card slots on the inside. A 13-megapixel shooter can be found on the back of this phone, and a 5-megapixel camera is placed on the front side of the Huawei Y6 2017. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the Huawei Y6 2017, and on top of it, you’ll be able to find Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 4.1 skin.
That’s pretty much all the info Huawei France shared on its website, but considering that it is listed on Huawei France’s site, that suggests it will launch in Europe first. We still don’t know how much will it cost, but it will be quite affordable, that’s for sure. As you can see, the only noticeable difference between the Huawei Y5 2017 and the Huawei Y6 2017 is in the camera department, as the Huawei Y6 2017 comes with a 13-megapixel main camera, while the Huawei Y5 2017 ships with an 8-megapixel rear-facing snapper.
