Instagram Adds An "Archive" Option for Posts

Instagram has quietly launched a new feature on their app this morning, and it’s an archive button. You may have seen it on your profile page in the Instagram app. It’s located in the upper right-hand corner, next to the “People You May Know” button. Now that button will show you all of your archived posts on the social media platform, but to archive a post, you simply tap on the three dots button on the post and you’ll see a button to archive your post at the very top. Allowing you to basically hide particular posts, which you can then revive later on.

This new Archive feature does not replace deleting your posts, you still are able to delete your pictures and videos if you want too. But with the Archive button, you are able to easily hide pictures and videos but still keep them on Instagram in case you want to view them yourself later on. This makes it easier to store photos, if you don’t use something like Google Photos or even Apple’s Photo service. This feature has actually not been formally announced by Instagram just yet, but seeing as how just about everyone has it already, it should only be a matter of a few hours before it is officially announced. Instagram did note, when talking with TechCrunch about this new feature, that they will be expanding on the functionality of the Archive feature in the coming months, which will make things a bit interesting, as far as what Instagram may add here.

Instagram is always looking for ways to keep users in their app, and keep them coming back. And the Archive feature appears to be their latest way of doing just that. Allowing users to go ahead and Archive photos and videos that they can still view later on, which means they’ll be opening the app again to view those photos and videos. And that translates into more usage, as well as more ad views. And that is the bottom line for Instagram, as more ad views means more advertisers spending money on the platform.
