Kodak’s camera-focused Ektra smartphone has hit the U.S. at a price of $399. While not necessarily on the bleeding edge with the specifications, the Ektra still comes packed with a respectable set of hardware features and promises to provide users with a great camera experience to make the most of their time capturing photos. Kodak says the Ektra is bringing the DLSR experience to mobile for the first time, and whether or not you agree with that the device does seem to have some nice camera features that will allow users to end up with great quality photos.
For starters, it boasts two high quality sensors including a 21-megapixel sensor on the back for the main images, as well as a 13-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies and video chat. The main camera features phase detection autofocus and HDR imaging, as well as a handful of DSLR style camera modes for the scene selection, including Panorama, Bokeh, Portrait, Sport, Night, Landscape, Manual, and Smart Auto. With these different scene selection choices users can ensure they get the best possible picture for a range of different situations, though it’s also worth noting that these aren’t scene selection options that are only available on the Ektra as you’ll find some of them on other smartphones too. That said, having them means the Ektra should provide a fairly decent set of images if used correctly.
As for the rest of the specifications, the Kodak Ektra will also come running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, it has 32GB of internal storage space and is capable of recording video at 4K resolution. It has a 5-inch Full HD screen and is powered by a MediaTek Helio X20 Deca-Core processor that’s paired with 3GB of RAM, and a 3,000mAh battery inside. It also has a dedicated camera key to make taking pictures that much easier. The Kodak Ektra is an unlocked GSM device and will support networks like T-Mobile and AT&T, but it won’t support Sprint, Verizon, or U.S. Cellular so that’s something to keep in mind if you’ve thought about picking this up. The device is available through Kodak’s own website, and it’s also available through Amazon.
