Latest Moto Z2 Leak Shows 3.5mm Audio Jack Isn't Coming Back

Three new real-life images of the supposed Moto Z2 were leaked by an industry insider on Monday, suggesting that Motorola Mobility isn’t planning to reintroduce the 3.5mm audio jack in the successor to the 2016 Moto Z that also lacked the conventional headphone port. The device shown in the newly emerged photographs is wrapped in a blue snap-on case that’s seemingly the same one that’s featured in the latest leak of the Moto Z2 Play, though the supposed Moto Z2 depicted here isn’t completely black and instead sports a golden back panel. The rear plate of the device also features a noticeable camera bump, while the top side of the handset houses a hybrid SIM card slot. A standard USB Type-C port is placed on the bottom of the phone, which isn’t surprising in light of the fact that the original Moto Z also shipped with the same connector.

The final image of the alleged Moto Z2 that can be seen above shows the smartphone from the front, indicating that Motorola Mobility’s upcoming handset will have regularly sized bezels, rounded corners, and a selfie LED flash. The handset also has a physical Home button that presumably houses a fingerprint reader, while its back panel is said to feature connectors for Moto Mods. According to recent reports, the Moto Z2 may be powered by the Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm’s latest flagship system-on-chip (SoC) built on the 10nm process. The device is thought to feature 4GB of RAM and at least 32GB of internal flash memory expandable by up to 256GB.

The Moto Z2 will likely ship running Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box that should be relatively similar to stock Android, at least if Motorola’s recent devices are any indication. The Lenovo-owned company has yet to officially announce the phone, but recent reports suggested that the consumer electronics manufacturer will be unveiling it in the near future, along with half a dozen of other models that are all scheduled to be released by the end of the year. More details on Moto’s upcoming handsets and their availability are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
