Following the bombing that happened in Manchester earlier this week, many of the wireless carriers in the US are offering free calls and texts to the UK, so that users are able to check in on their family and friends and make sure everyone and everything is alright. The carriers that are offering free calls and texts to the UK include AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile. Verizon has not yet announced that they are waiving their fees, but they likely will soon. The waived fees are good through the end of today, May 24th, so there’s not long to be able to take advantage of this.
On Monday night, a suicide bomber set off a bomb outside of the Manchester Arena in Manchester where an Arianna Grande concert was taking place. There were mostly kids attending this concert and the last official count saw 29 people perish in this horrific event. With over 50 others being in the hospital. The suspect (since he was a “suicide bomber”) is dead, he did not enter the arena, but detonated his bomb outside of the arena. Which has called a lot of questions about whether or not concert venues and arenas need to take extra precautions outside of their venues as well as inside. The UK Prime Minister has also heightened the security level, as they fear that another attack might be coming soon. This is the most deadly attack in the UK since the London subway was bombed in 2005 which killed 56 people but injured hundreds of others.
Typically when events like this happen, the wireless carriers spring into action making it easier to call overseas to check in on your friends and family to make sure that everything is alright, and that’s the case here with the Manchester Bombing. The carriers do also often do this when it comes to weather events like hurricanes, tornadoes and more. It’s a nice gesture by the carriers, although it would be nice for this to happen immediately after the event happens, instead of a couple of days later. But it’s still a nice gesture from the carriers, which many say are a bit greedy when it comes to money.
