It now seems as though the Android Wear 2.0 update for Moto 360 devices is about to start rolling out. As a reply by Motorola Support to a question on Twitter is confirming as much. Noting that the update will roll out in phases, possibly starting from today, and with the second-generation Moto 360 smartwatch.
With this coming from an official Motorola channel, it does seem as though the details are likely to be correct, and while the tweet seems to confirm the imminent start of the update process, the relayed message does suggest that it might not actually begin today. Although the assumption here is that it is certainly about to start in the next day or so. Likewise, as this is confirmed as a phased rolling out, not all Moto 360 (2nd Gen) devices will receive the update at the same time. With the rolling out likely to take quite a few days to be fully completed. It is also worth mentioning that no specific details were provided in the tweet on regional availability. In either case though, Moto 360 (2nd Gen) device owners should probably expect to see the update arriving soon enough, along with everything the update brings, like a dedicated on-watch Play Store.
While this is a long overdue update for the Moto 360, it is one which has been long overdue in general. The update was originally penned to start rolling out late last year, but was then put on hold for various and unspecified reasons. Finally getting its proper and official announcement back in February when Google and LG unveiled two smartwatches, both equipped with Android Wear 2.0. Since then, the availability of the update has remained staggered with manufacturers randomly announcing the update, much like with what is happening today with the Moto 360. Although random in its arrival, it did become clear in February which devices would be getting the update, along with a further classification coming through in April of this year. So while now might be the time of the Moto 360 (2nd Gen), if your device has yet to see the update (and is on the list), the update might not be that far away.
