The Moto Z2 Play has had numerous leaks already – with one of those purportedly coming from Lenovo itself – and is expected to be revealed as soon as within the next month, but a new leak may have just revealed almost everything about the device ahead of that. Although many of the rumors up to this point have been contradictory, the new leak appears to confirm many of the already rumored specifications, available color schemes, and other aspects of the device. However, it bears repeating, as always, that leaks don’t always turn out to be correct and should be taken with a grain of salt.
According to the source, newly leaked information confirms that the Moto Z2 Play will feature a 5.5-inch IPS full HD display. At the bottom of the display side, there will be a fingerprint reader, while a 5-megapixel camera will be embedded at the top. Flipping the device over will reveal a 12-megapixel shooter featuring dual-LED flash. Video recording is said to be at up to 4K resolution. The Moto Z2 Play will be available in black and gray, white and gold, and white and silver. Behind the scenes, the Z2 Play is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 626, which is a 64-bit SoC that has been clocked to 2.2 GHz. That will be backed up by 4 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of storage. A micro-SD slot is included for even more storage, but no maximum supported card size is listed. Other features are present as well, including Gigabit WLAN, Bluetooth 4.2, and NFC. Variants of the device will also support dual-SIM operation, depending on the country. However, other specifications could also vary by country since this leak lists the Moto Z2 Play with a 3,000 mAh battery, which contradicts a TENAA listing for the device showing only a 2,820 mAh battery for the Chinese variant. In either case, the device is also said to have a USB Type-C port onboard for charging. On the software side, the handset is expected to ship with a “near stock” version of Android 7.1.1 (Nougat). Moto Mods are also reportedly set to be supported with the Moto Z2 Play, though the availability of those will also vary by country.
As of this writing, there is still no information about where the Moto Z2 Play will be available or exactly how much it will cost. As a mid-range device, it should fall well within that category for pricing too when it finally drops. Unfortunately, while its fun to speculate and leaks are accurate as often as they’re wrong, nothing can really be confirmed until Lenovo decides to unveil its latest creation.
