A video titled “Nokia Reveal Film” depicting a Nokia-branded smartphone with a dual camera setup surfaced online earlier this week, giving more credence to recent industry rumors that the HMD Global-owned handset brand is working on a device with a dual-lens camera. While the video also shows what look like the already announced Nokia 3, Nokia 5, final two smartphones featured in the clip have yet to be officially unveiled by the Finnish phone maker. The one that seems similar to the Nokia 6 except for its camera setup is likely the rumored Nokia 8 or Nokia 9, while the one with a dual-sensor camera is even more puzzling.
The approximate dimensions of the new device with two rear imaging sensors are seemingly similar to that of the Nokia 6, indicating that the handset in question might be around 154 x 75.8 x 7.9mm in size and feature a 5.5-inch display panel. One obvious detail about the handset is its aspect ratio as the phone’s screen clearly boasts a conventional 16:9 image format, just like the rest of the lineup that Nokia announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this year. While the overall design of the smartphone could be mistaken for either the Nokia 5 or Nokia 6, its dual camera setup clearly indicates that the device which can be seen in the video below is an entirely new model that the Finnish company hasn’t announced to date.
The official launch of the newly leaked Nokia smartphone may not be happening anytime soon as the date on the lock screens of the handsets rendered in the leaked video clearly states November 25, suggesting that this may be an extremely early look at the device. Nokia was previously rumored to be working with Carl Zeiss on a dual camera phone setup, with some industry insiders claiming that the company is set to debut such an imaging system on its first flagship smartphone in the post-Microsoft era. Given how dual-lens mobile cameras are still a rare occurrence on non-premium handsets, it seems likely that if Nokia would to commercialize such a system, it would do so with an Android flagship. While it remains to be seen whether the company ends up releasing a dual camera smartphone, more details on its future products should be available later this year.
