Pinterest App Update Introduces Food-Focused Features

The latest Pinterest app update introduces some food-focused features that make it easier to find recipes. Whether you’re a current user of Pinterest or if you’re thinking about giving it a try, food recipes will not only be easier to find but the app will also include recommendations from other users who have tried the recipes that users may be searching for. Say you’re looking for that perfect burger recipe, and you finally settle on one from the massive list of results that show up following your search. In the future you may get recommendations from other users who have tried that recipe if Pinterest thinks you might like the recipe in the recommendation.

As part of the new feature inclusions, it’s now possible to filter your recipe searches. There are multiple ways to filter your results down so you get just the recipe you’re looking for, or at least get as close as possible. New filter options include the time it takes to cook a recipe, the ingredients that are included in that recipe, and an option to filter out recipes that don’t fit into your diet if you’re either trying to cut back on certain stuff or if there are things that you can’t actually eat. Time filters can be for 15 or 30 minutes, or 1 or 2 hours, and diet filters can include things like Paleo, Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten-Free.

Pinterest’s Lens tool is getting buffed up too. Now you’ll be able to use the Lens tool to analyze what you’re eating and get recipes that may help you cook it at home. For example, if you try a new restaurant and you end up loving what you order so much that you want to cook it at home for yourself, you can Lens the meal and see if you get recipe results that will match or closely match what you’re looking for. You may not end up getting an exact match, but you may end up getting recipe results that you weren’t expecting and love just as much. Lastly, recipes will now also include star ratings from popular and well-known food websites like epicurious and the Food Network, so if you really want to know how loved a recipe is with others, the star ratings will be able to help provide some insight.
