Rumor: Amazon's LCD-Equipped Echo Show To Be Priced At $230

Amazon’s upcoming LCD-equipped smart speaker will be called the Echo Show and retail in the United States for $229.99, sources with knowledge of the matter told AFTVnews, the same outlet that originally broke the story of the device’s existence. Furthermore, the latest report suggests that the Seattle, Washington-based tech giant will start accepting pre-orders for the Echo Show later today, which corroborates a tip received by The Wall Street Journal on Monday. Apart from the information itself, industry sources also produced a photograph of the Echo Show listing that can be seen below. In addition to the aforementioned details, the image also reveals that Amazon is planning to start shipping the Echo Show on June 28.

It’s currently unclear how many units of its upcoming Internet of Things (IoT) gadget is Amazon planning to produce, but initial quantities will likely be somewhat limited, as evidenced by the fact that the company is planning to restrict pre-orders to four units per customer, according to the newly leaked listing of the device. While the aforementioned date refers to the day when Amazon is expected to start shipping the Echo Show, it’s currently unclear when the company’s brick-and-mortar stores and retail partners like Best Buy will have the device in stock. Likewise, there’s still no word on the worldwide availability of the upcoming LCD-equipped connected speaker that’s expected to house Amazon’s artificial intelligence (AI) assistant Alexa. Apart from the United States, the existing Echo lineup is presently available for purchase in the United Kingdom and Germany, and both countries are said to be receiving the Echo Show in the future, though industry sources are yet to produce specifics regarding their release dates that might not coincide with the device’s stateside launch.

Regardless, recent reports suggest that British and German consumers will be able to purchase the Echo Show for £219.99 ($285) and €239.99 ($262), respectively. With the release of an LCD-equipped smart speaker, Amazon is likely hoping to seize an even larger share of the connected speaker market than it already boasts and further solidify its leading position in the industry. An update on the availability and pricing of the Echo Show is expected to follow shortly.
