Rumor: OnePlus 5 Loaded With 16MP Camera, Sony IMX398 Sensor

The OnePlus 5 may come equipped with a 16-megapixel camera, along with an IMX398 sensor, and 1.12µm pixels. The information on this comes by way of a new post on reddit where the the poster states that while the information is correct, they are unable to offer any proof of the claims. So by any measure, this remains an unsubstantiated rumor. In either case, the redditor is looking to confirm the camera details, adding that the OnePlus 5 will make use of the same camera used by OPPO on the OPPO R9s.

It is worth pointing out that an alleged AnTuTu listing for the OnePlus 5 was recently spotted, and that listing did also state that the rear camera included with the OnePlus 5 was a 16-megapixel camera. Which for background, is the same megapixel count as the camera used on the OnePlus 3T. However, the difference here would be the sensor, as the OnePlus 3T’s rear camera makes use of a Sony IMX298 sensor, compared to the Sony IMX398 sensor suggested in this latest rumor. Although, it is also worth noting that if this latest rumor is correct, then the 1.12 µm pixels stated is also the same as the µm level on offer with the OnePlus 3T. One more point to note here, originally the OnePlus 3T was rumored to come loaded with an IMX398 sensor. So it seems strange for this combination to have been rumored for two consecutive devices like this, unless this particular combination is something OnePlus has been looking to include on a smartphone for some time.

Of course, there is also the wider debate currently ongoing as to how many rear cameras the OnePlus 5 will have. There has been a number of OnePlus 5 leaks coming through already, including a number of images and renders said to be of the smartphone. And nearly all of them so far have included a dual rear camera setup. So the general consensus does seem to be that the OnePlus 5 will come equipped with dual rear cameras. Where the debate lies though, is how these two rear cameras will be positioned. With some rumors suggesting the cameras will be aligned vertically, and others (the more recent rumors) suggesting that the cameras will be aligned horizontally. Interestingly, the source for this current camera rumor, was unclear of whether a dual camera setup will be on offer. Cameras aside, the rest of the speculation (and most notably from the mentioned AnTuTu listing) suggests the OnePlus 5 will come loaded with 6GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, and Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) pre-installed.
