Sony Xperia XA1 Launches In Canada For $320 CAD

The Sony Xperia XA1 is now available for purchase in Canada for $320 CAD, which translates to just under $235 USD. Sony’s new mid-range smartphone was recently picked up by Videotron and the Montreal-based mobile service provider is selling it for the aforementioned price without a contract. Customers who aren’t keen on paying the full retail price for the device can opt to purchase it for $79.95 CAD ($58 USD) with a two-year contract that will set them back $39.95 CAD ($30 USD) per month. Alternatively, those who are willing to sign a 24-month plan that’s priced at $49.95 ($36 USD) per month will be able to get the Xperia XA1 from Videotron without an upfront fee, the wireless carrier’s official website reveals.

The aforementioned price tag is significantly lower than what the Xperia XA1 is going for in the United States where the handset was launched earlier this month with a retail price of $299.99. Likewise, its European retail price amounts to €280 ($307), so the device is currently cheapest in Canada. According to Sony Mobile’s previous statements, the Xperia XA1 will also be available from Freedom Mobile later this week, though it’s currently unclear whether any other mobile service providers in the country will be selling the smartphone in the future. For now, Videotron is incentivizing customers to purchase the Xperia XA1 by offering them a free pair of Sony XB550AP headphones that are usually priced at $79.95 CAD, i.e. $58 USD. It remains to be seen whether Freedom Mobile will try to match that offer, but more information on the matter should follow in the coming days.

Originally introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this year, the Xperia XA1 is Sony’s new mid-range smartphone equipped with a 5-inch display panel boasting a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. The device is powered by the Mediatek MT6757 Helio P20 system-on-chip (SoC) and 3GB of RAM, in addition to featuring 32GB of storage space that can be expanded by up to 256GB via a microSD card slot. The Xperia XA1 is running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, enhanced with Sony’s proprietary user interface. The phone’s larger sibling, the Xperia XA1 Ultra, still isn’t available in Canada but is expected to launch in the country by late June.
