Verizon Wireless started pushing out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for all LG Stylo 2 V units on its network, as revealed by a newly updated support page for the device. The largest mobile service provider in the country has been preparing the update for the last several weeks, as evidenced by the source code uploaded by the company to the LG Open Source website earlier this month. The latest system upgrade for the LG Electronics-made Android phone bears the software version VS83520b and is being distributed as an over-the-air (OTA) update, which is standard practice for virtually all software packages that wireless carriers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are distributing to contemporary smartphones.
While the New Jersey-based firm has yet to confirm that, the update is likely being rolled out in stages and won’t be available throughout the United States until later this week. Owners of the LG Stylo 2 V who are feeling impatient can always try searching for the new software package manually by starting the Settings app on their device, navigating to the “About phone” menu, and selecting the top item on the following screen. Everyone else will receive a push notification telling them that the new software is available for download in the coming days. As always, Verizon and LG are suggesting that users connect their smartphones to a Wi-Fi network and make sure they’re either charging or have at least 50 percent of battery left before they start downloading the update in order to avoid issues that could make their handsets inoperable. The Big Red has yet to disclose the size of the new software package, though most Nougat builds distributed by wireless carriers in the country so far have been around 1.3GB in size, meaning this one shouldn’t be too far off that mark.
The LG Stylo 2 V originally launched as a Verizon exclusive in October, running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and LG’s proprietary software suite. While it remains to be seen how long will the South Korean tech giant and Verizon continue supporting the device, more details on its upcoming software upgrades should be available later this year.
