Huawei has officially announced its latest smartphone, the Y7 Prime, set to go on sale in eastern markets. The Huawei Y7 Prime is the successor to last year’s Huawei Y6 Prime which proved popular in emerging markets. Huawei has crafted the new device out of aluminum, meaning the device features a relatively premium build. As well as this, the company has also equipped the model with a large IPS display and a huge 4000mAh battery, something sure to please many customers.
Speaking of the display, the exact size of the panel is 5.5-inches, though it does feature a relatively low pixel density of 267ppi (pixels-per-inch) due to the 1280 x 720p resolution. Looking to the insides of the device, the specs are certainly respectable for the price range. An octa-core Snapdragon 435 is powering the device alongside a reasonable 3GB of RAM and a respectable 32GB of internal storage, giving users plenty of storage for documents and photos. Alongside all of this, Huawei has also placed a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on the device which accompanies the 12-megapixel rear camera that the device has been equipped with. Regarding the front camera, the device features an 8-megapixel selfie sensor. Unfortunately, though, the company has equipped the device with a previous generation micro-USB port, instead of the newer USB Type-C port. Moving away from the hardware side of things, though, and the Huawei Y7 Prime comes running Android 7.0 Nougat straight out of the box along with Huawei’s EMUI 5.1 overlay on top.
Huawei has confirmed that the new model will be available in a choice of three colors, those being Streamer Gold, Silver or Gray. The company has certainly not taken any risks when it comes to the overall looks of the device, with the design not straying too far away from previous models destined for eastern markets. Nonetheless, the 4000mAh battery and other internals are sure to impress consumers looking for a device on a budget. Currently, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has only confirmed pricing for the model in Hong Kong, where it will be available for HK$1800, or roughly $230, though it’s unknown if this model will remain an exclusive to the market or if Huawei has plans to expand the availability of the model to other Asian markets.
