Sony has brought their beta Xperia Home launcher to Google Play for anyone who wants to download and install the latest version of their third-party launcher. That said, you still need an Xperia device for it to work as it’s not compatible with anything that isn’t an Xperia device. It is however now more easily accessible if you fall into the category of users who does own one of Sony’s smartphones, and with the release on the Play Store (which is technically in an unreleased status) Sony has also added support for more devices, like its newest Xperia smartphones.
As for which devices are now supported, this includes the Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, the Xperia XZs, and the Xperia XZ Premium, though it’s not necessarily limited to just those four newer devices and could include some others. essentially, if you have an Xperia device and you weren’t able to install the Xperia Home Open Beta before, you should give it a try, and you can get things started by hitting the button below which will take you to the screen where you join to become a beta tester. From there, you’ll find a link that actually takes you to the Play Store listing, as this will only show up if you’re already a tester.
More than bringing this to the Play Store and opening up support for additional devices, the Xperia Home beta is also being sent out with a new release, which comes along with new and improved features as well as some bug fixes. Sony doesn’t actually mention what the bug fixes are so anyone that has been on the Xperia Home beta should notice things running smoother, and there are also some performance fixes included so the overall performance should be smoother too. As for new features, there is an all-new startup animation when powering on the device so this is something you’ll only see a handful of times unless you’re powering cycling your phone every single day. Additional changes include the Promise icons becoming visible when installing new applications onto the device, and Sony has reorganized the settings menu as well as aligned the Stage icons with the desktop grid.
