Sprint Expanding Stores Across New England, Adding 450 Jobs

Sprint is about to start expanding its stores across New England, bringing more than 450 new jobs to the region, according to a statement made by the company’s regional headquarters in Burlington, Massachusetts yesterday. The carrier plans to open at least 60 retail stores during the next 18 months, and some of the new stores are set to open as early as this summer in states including Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, as well as Upstate New York. Anyone wishing to apply for positions in the new stores should head to the company’s website at and submit an application, the wireless carrier said. Sprint currently employs around 650 people in the region so this is a significant workforce increase, with the company hoping that its new employees will help it provide a better service to customers.

As well as announcing its New England expansion, Sprint stated its intention to continue enhancing its network, as well striving to “make a difference” across the region by working with communities on various initiatives like the Sprint Foundation’s 1Million Project which was established back in January to address disadvantages of students without Internet access. Hundreds of eligible students in Massachusetts and Rhode Island have already received free smartphones, tablets, laptops, and routers as a result of Sprint’s initiative that’s set to continue assisting disadvantaged youth until at least 2022. Wireless data usage in areas such as Providence and Boston has increased by over 800 percent in the last five years, Sprint said, noting how this trend is evidence of further network investments that are being made, with upgrades and new technology for over 630 cell sites bringing Carrier Aggregation, HD Voice, and LTE connectivity to new areas. Such improvements have already been provided across the region and to the Gillette Stadium and Fenway Park venues. Additionally, the carrier boasted about bringing 2.5 LTE to the Buffalo Bills new ERA stadium.

There has recently been a lot of talk regarding a T-Mobile and Sprint merger, with some analysts suggesting that T-Mobile is more likely to purchase Sprint rather than the other way around, though the two companies are reportedly still somewhat away from reaching a deal.
