Report: Facebook Messenger’s AI Assistant M Comes To Canada

Facebook has finally decided to bring its M Suggestions artificial intelligence service to Canada, as well as a few other regions which include the UK, Australia, and South Africa. This is after launching M Suggestions in the U.S. just earlier this year as it officially rolled out for U.S.-based Messenger users in April, allowing users to receive suggestions for a variety of things based on they’re discussions with family or friends in Facebook’s Messenger chat app.

While M Suggestions is now available to users in Canada, not all of the features that are available to users in the U.S. will be part of the launch. For example, M Suggestions can recommend users in the U.S. make a payment to the person they’re chatting with if something is said that revolves around payments. This is one such feature that will not be available to Canadian users at this time, and Facebook has not mentioned when it might plan to launch this as an available M Suggestions feature. That said there are a number of M Suggestions features that will be present as part of the launch within the country, such as sending stickers and sharing locations with other users if someone happens to ask where the other person is.

M Suggestions in Canada will also initially launch with the ability to recommend making plans if users are talking about meeting up with each other, as well as recommendations for sending someone a Birthday Wish if M happens to notice that one of the people in a one on one conversation is having a birthday. M will also recommend at certain times, that specific content should be saved, prompting the user to do so, and M can even suggest that users being a voice or video call. One last feature that is part of the Canada launch will be for group chats, with M suggesting that users create a poll if the chat includes discussion of deciding on something, like where to eat or have drinks, thus letting users essentially vote on the decision to make things easier. The suggestions to play Spotify tracks within the chat, a feature which recently launched in the U.S. just this week, will not be available outside of the U.S. at this time.
