Law enforcement camera maker WOLFCOM on Wednesday announced the Venture, a four-in-one wearable camera that the company says is the first device of its kind “designed for everyone.” The firm’s founder and president Austin Onruang claims that the Venture is comparable to a portable broadcasting studio in the sense that it facilitates the process of streaming one’s experiences from a first-person point of view, and the device itself that can be seen in the gallery below is meant to be clipped onto a backpack strap or a piece of clothing and has a rotational camera head, in addition to boasting four conventional LED flash units.
The battery powering the Venture should provide users with around 2.5 hours of operation, WOLFCOM said, adding that an optional battery pack can bring that longevity up to 23 hours. Still, even the basic battery should be enough for most content creators looking to broadcast excerpts of their experiences, as evidenced by the average broadcast length of today’s most popular streamers. The lens integrated into the Venture has a recording field of 120 degrees and doesn’t generate a fisheye effect, the Los Angeles, California-based original equipment manufacturer said, adding that its product is also extremely portable, weighing only 2.2 ounces (under 62.4 grams), making it suitable for clipping to a piece of clothing. Furthermore, the Venture is compatible with a number of WOLFCOM’s other point-of-view cameras and complements them in the sense that it can automatically start recording a Full HD video whenever it loses a connection with other devices. All of those and other functionalities are manageable using the company’s mobile app for Android devices which can also serve as a remote control for the camera and a bridge for streaming your content using a 4G LTE connection, the camera maker said.
The Venture is a crowdfunded project that WOLFCOM brought to Indiegogo where it’s seeking $25,000 from backers so that it’s able to bring its latest creation to the market. Limited early bird pledges can net you one unit for as little as $149, 50 percent down from the Venture’s planned retail price. Following the product’s release in the near future, WOLFCOM is hoping to break into the emerging live streaming segment which was recently popularized by social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
