Android Pay now supports Visa Checkout for online payments according to Visa who made the statement about the expanded support in a blog post today. Visa Checkout has been one of the options available to consumers who shop online which has made checking out and paying for items or services a rather simplified and quick process, among other digital payment solutions like PayPal, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay. Now that Android Pay has integrated Visa Checkout into its solution, those who wish to use Android Pay for online purchases but wanted to also use Visa Checkout no longer have to make the decision on which to use, as they can use both.
With Visa Checkout now supported by Android Pay, users who either already use Visa Checkout when shopping online or already use Android Pay will have a new method for online purchases. Merchants will still need to support Visa Checkout for this to be an option, so merchants that do use Visa Checkout will be opening up a new payment method with Android Pay to consumers who already use it, which will open those merchants up to a potentially much larger group of consumers who may not have used their services as often due to the lack of Android Pay support.
With the new integration going live this should also open up Visa Checkout as a payment method for in-app purchases as well for apps that support it. Not all apps will support Visa Checkout, so consumers will want to keep that in mind when hoping to use it as a payment method. That said, using Visa Checkout through Android Pay will require users to link Visa Checkout to their Android Pay accounts. Once done, anywhere users see the Visa Checkout with Android Pay button will be a site where this can be used as a way to pay. Visa Checkout is touted as a very secure digital payment method, though it should go without saying that Visa Checkout won’t work with anything that isn’t a Visa card. This means you shouldn’t expect to be able to link you MasterCard or American Express cards to the Visa Checkout payments platform. Visa doesn’t mention whether or not this has already gone live, so users may or may not be able to link their Visa Checkout and Android Pay accounts immediately.
