A render depicting what’s said to be the OnePlus 5T surfaced online on Monday, having originally been shared by Android Authority who said it came from “a trusted source.” The image that can be seen above doesn’t show the rumored handset in its entirety but it does add more credence to recent reports that the Chinese original equipment manufacturer did away with the physical Home button for its next product and will ship a device that features a radically different aesthetic to the OnePlus 5.
The OnePlus 5T depicted in the newly uncovered render appears to boast a relatively bezel-free design with a screen that reaches the long edges of its case and a minimal bottom bezel, though its top bezel isn’t clearly seen in the image. A new “Never Settle” wallpaper is also revealed by the leak, as is one bottom-facing stereo speaker, with the frame of the device seemingly being of the aluminum variety. A USB Type-C port is presumably part of the package, positioned to the right of the bottom speaker, but isn’t seen in the render. The tilted angle at which the smartphone is shown also doesn’t make it immediately clear whether its display panel features a conventional widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9 or a taller 18:9 (2:1) one, though the latter scenario is much more likely, according to recent rumors which claimed that the screen of the OnePlus 5T will have a 6-inch diagonal and an FHD+ resolution of 2,160 by 1,080 pixels.
If the OnePlus 5T is to ship without a physical Home button, the device will likely feature a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The OnePlus 5 that launched in June is already unavailable for purchase, which is in line with the Chinese company‘s previously established product release pattern that leads to relatively short (online) shelf lives of its aggressively priced Android handsets which always get discontinued almost immediately before their successors are announced as the firm presumably isn’t able to additionally discount their price tags due to its already thin profit margins. A number of industry insiders recently alleged that the OnePlus 5T will be officially announced in November and go on sale by the end of the same month, exactly one year after the OnePlus 3T was introduced.
