BlackBerry has moved to help beef up the security of Samsung devices used in enterprise and government organizations by introducing more features to its SecuSUITE solution for Samsung Knox, a tool for keeping voice and data transiting between Samsung smartphones and tablets safe from third-party prying eyes. The company announced on Tuesday that SecuSUITE for Samsung Knox has now incorporated SecuVOICE for phone call protection and the BlackBerry Unified Endpoint Management solution for device management.
For those of you who might not be familiar with SecuVOICE, it is a communication tool that comes with hardware encryption. With the addition of SecuVOICE to SecuSUITE for Samsung Knox, users will now be able to make phone calls free from unauthorized tapping using the Secusmart Security Card. The security card is designed to unify end-to-end encryption in hardware with the subscriber’s identify secured using cryptographic means. Keep in mind that the SecuVOICE solution does not come as an individual offering, but instead ships as part of the SecuSUITE for Samsung Knox family of security solutions, along with the BlackBerry UEM. The latter provides an integrated method of managing a wide variety of devices on the end-user side and setting controls for those handsets as well as the apps that are installed in them. BlackBerry says that while the UEM solution supports a diverse mix of devices at present, the list of supported handsets and apps keeps growing. More to the point, the SecuSUITE solution is expanding support for more smartphones and tablets built by the South Korean original equipment manufacturer, including the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Tab S2 (both the 8 and 10-inch variants) and Tab S3.
BlackBerry has been ramping up its effort to deliver security offerings to the business and government customers on the software side lately. Last March, the company’s Chief Operating Officer Marty Beard announced that BlackBerry is increasingly growing its focus on the enterprise market with the goal to make BlackBerry’s security solution a universal tool in this segment. Then most recently, it won a contract to offer secure communications services to the U.S. government.
