Canary Adds Google Assistant Support to its Flex and All-In-One Devices

Canary announced that its home security products, the all-in-one and the Flex, now have support for the Google Assistant, without an update being needed. Being one of the early adopters of Google Assistant in the home security system sector of smart home products. The Canary All-In-One is a complete home security system, and the Flex is a camera that you can mount outside and keep an eye on your home. According to Canary’s blog post announcing Google Assistant integration, users will be able to ask Google Assistant to find out the temperature at home, which would allow you to adjust the thermostat when you’re not home. Or you can check the battery of the Flex, and even ask about the air quality in a certain room.

Setting up Google Assistant with Canary is actually fairly easy. All you need to do is go ahead and open the Google Home app on your smartphone. From there, go to Home Control and click the plus button in the lower right-hand side. That will bring up a list of compatible services that you can add. Find Canary and then the Google Assistant will walk you through connecting your Canary account, so that Google will have access to your Canary products. It’s pretty simple and setup is basically the same as any other smart home product that has Google Assistant support.

While the capabilities of the Google Assistant with Canary right now is fairly limited. Canary did note that it will be adding some more features and capabilities to its products with the Google Assistant in the very near future. So that users can expect the functionality of the Google Assistant to improve down the road. Which is something Google has been doing with the Google Assistant as well, with other things, not just smart home control. If you don’t already use the Google Assistant, it’s a good idea to get started. It’s available on virtually every platform, including Android, iOS and Chrome OS (at first on the Pixelbook). So there’s really no reason not to start using the Google Assistant for everything, including controlling your home.
