Huawei Confirms A 4,000mAh Battery For Its Mate 10 Flagship

The Mate 10 Android flagship will carry a 4,000mAh battery, Huawei Mobile confirmed just moments ago on Twitter as part of its ongoing promotional campaign dedicated to building anticipation for its upcoming high-end smartphone in the run-up to its launch. The announcement itself doesn’t come as a large surprise seeing how the 2016 Mate 9 also shipped with a 4,000mAh battery and simply confirms that its successor will continue that trend. The Mate 10 lineup is the last premium Android series expected to be unveiled this year and while the Chinese company has yet to explicitly say this, it seems likely that both the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will feature identical batteries.

Huawei’s Thursday tweet also claims that the Mate 10 will be able to get consumers through an entire day on a single charge and is accompanied by a short video teaser that can be seen below which ends with yet another reminder that the original equipment manufacturer is announcing its next offering on October 16th in Munich, Germany. The clip itself also shows a vague contour of a system-on-chip, hinting at another major selling point of the Mate 10 lineup – the HiSilicon Kirin 970. The tech giant previously described this chip as the first creation of its kind designed specifically for artificial intelligence purposes, adding that the Kirin 970 ships with a separate processing unit dedicated exclusively to AI applications. AI will supposedly be one of the focus points of the Mate 10-series devices, with Huawei recently suggesting it’s planning to go as far as to not even advertise its products as smartphones but something much more.

Given the currently available information, it seems that the Mate 10 lineup will likely be similar to the newly unveiled Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL in the sense that it will attempt to innovate through software rather than just hardware, even though the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and Mate 10 Plus are all expected to feature a relatively bezel-free design and adopt a tall 18:9 aspect ratio that has already been commercialized by numerous phone makers over the course of this year so as to not fall behind its rivals on the hardware front. That luxury is also said to come at a price, with latest rumors suggesting that many Mate 10 models will go for over $1,000 in certain markets.
