Lei Jun has just informed the public that Xiaomi had managed to sell over 10 million smartphones in October, which means that the company managed to do the same it did in September, when it broke its previous record. Xiaomi’s latest goal as far as sales go is set to 90 million units, and considering that the company already sold over 73 million smartphones thus far, that goal seems to be quite reachable for this Chinese tech giant.
Xiaomi had originally planned to sell 70 million smartphones by the end of this year, considering that 2016 wasn’t exactly a great year for the company in terms of sales, but as time went by, Xiaomi realized that they will be able to do considerably better than that, which is why its goal now stands at 90 million smartphones. It’s also worth noting that the company managed to ship out 23.16 million smartphones in the second quarter of this year. Having said that, the company is doing really well this year, better than expected, and its success in India definitely has something to do with that. According to the latest info, Xiaomi’s sales in India grew 290 percent in the third quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, which is, needless to say, quite a boost for Xiaomi. The company is also constantly expanding its retail stores in China, which is boosting its offline sales in the country, and is also planning to expand to new markets in the near future, Xiaomi is actually coming to Spain on November 7, and other European countries may follow soon after that.
One of Xiaomi’s main competitors, Huawei, already shipped over 114 million smartphones this year, but Huawei is currently active is considerably more markets than Xiaomi. In addition to these two companies, OPPO and Vivo are amongst the largest Chinese smartphone manufacturers at the moment, as these two companies have been immensely successful in China lately, and it will certainly be interesting to see what will their sales look like in China by the end of this year, and if Xiaomi will be able to cross that magic 90 million smartphones goal, though chances are it will, at least based on the company’s sales thus far.
