An update is now rolling out that will install the OxygenOS Open Beta 26 and the Open Beta 17 to the units of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, respectively. With this software upgrade, the User Feedback app returns to the two handsets, and it can be used to report to the manufacturer of the software bugs. OnePlus also enhanced the Wi-Fi and mobile data connectivity of the two handsets, and with this refinement, it is requesting users to inform the company regarding any changes in the network connectivity. The stability of the Picture-in-Picture mode is also improved. In the previous versions of OxygenOS, using PiP mode often lead to a device reboot and this update contains the fix to this issue.
It is also less likely that the voicemail tab will disappear from the dialer app and the performance of the handset’s NFC will be improved, once this update is installed. The device is now less likely to heat up, which was a concern in previous Open Beta builds. The software upgrade also includes bug fixes for the notification dot issue, ambient display issue, and average storage calibration. However, the manufacturer highlighted a few issues that the users may encounter with the current software build. The fingerprint scanner may still work slower compared to initial software versions while there could be issues regarding the performance and compatibility of third-party apps, which are still being optimized for Android 8.0 Oreo.
For users who have previously flashed the OxygenOS Open Beta to their devices, the software upgrade is being distributed over the air automatically and it may take several days before all smartphones receive the update. The installation file is 182MB, and the user should verify that there is enough free space in the internal storage to temporarily keep the file. The contents of the smartphone should be backed up to prevent loss of data if something goes wrong during the update process. For those who are still in the stable build of OxygenOS, the manufacturer provides detailed instructions on how to flash the full ROM of the Open Beta builds to the handsets. The full ROM can be downloaded from OnePlus’ website and its file size is 1.46GB. It should be noted that once the Open Beta build is installed, the user will no longer receive updates for the stable build.
