Pixel 2/2 XL Get Sep. Security Patch Factory/OTA Images

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have received the September security patch via factory and OTA images if you’re looking to make sure that your latest smartphone is mostly up to date with fixes for potential security vulnerabilities. It’s worth noting that these builds are labeled as the October security patches on Google’s web pages for each image type, but the build numbers are the same as the build numbers which were already on the devices out of the box, so no one should be expecting to receive any over-the-air updates for this particular patch as Google shipped the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL with it.

Since these are just the builds for the September patches, it’s unclear when Google will update the pages with factory and OTA images for the October patch, which went out to the original Pixel and Pixel XL earlier this month through OTA updates and via the images on the site. Since these appear to be the current builds of the software that are already on each of the two new phones which just recently released, there’s probably no need to rush and try to flash either device with the factory or OTA image, as you’ll just be getting the same patch with likely no new fixes.

For the time being, users with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL can just sit back and relax as Google may end up posting actual October patches for the two phones in the near future, and in addition to that it will likely put up factory and OTA images prior to pushing out the software over the air. Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were launched back on October 19th, hitting the Google Store for sale outside of a pre-order status and hitting Verizon Wireless stores for those that wanted to pick up the phones physically if they were subscribers of the carrier. This is following Google’s announcement of the two phones back on October 4th, which is the same time the company announced the original Pixel and Pixel XL from 2016. If you have either new phone and you’re still curious to find out if your device has the latest software build even if it isn’t the October patch, you ca find buttons down below to both image types.
