Samsung Explains The Inspiration Behind Some Note 8 Sounds

Samsung recently took to its official newsroom blog to explain what makes some of the sound options available on its Galaxy Note 8 so unique, compared to the others. Specifically, the company says that some of the sounds were created as a collaboration between 14-year-old pen beater Jinyoung Choi, beatboxer and rapper 2 Tak, and renowned musician and producer Tadashi Takatsuka. For those who aren’t already aware, Choi’s work involves the tapping and sliding of writing implements to play out or compose beats, with each part of the pens or pencils being used in various ways to generate the different tones that make up a composition. The trio was brought together by Samsung and taken to a studio to create what the company calls an “S Pen-inspired” playlist of notifications and ringtones exclusively for the Galaxy Note 8.

The list itself includes three fully-fleshed ringtones and two notification sounds. The ringtones, for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 owners interested in checking out the resulting tones for themselves, are called Bubble Beat, Happy Jungle, and Kitchen Mix. The three ringers are at the core of the playlist since they represent the joint efforts of Takatsuka, Choi, and 2 Tak. As the names might imply, Bubble Beat is lighthearted and playful and Happy Jungle has more primal underpinnings and sounds more “woody.” Kitchen Mix is reminiscent of what it might actually sound like for a professional musician to create sounds on the surfaces found in a typical kitchen. Those descriptions, of course, don’t really do the ringtones justice, though. So, anybody who doesn’t have immediate access to a Galaxy Note 8 phablet will probably want to head over to the source link below to give the sounds a listen for themselves. Meanwhile, the notification tones are solo efforts and each is named for its respective musician. As notification sounds should be, both Beatbox and Pen Beats are short and attention-grabbing, without being too immediately distracting or difficult to listen to.

There really are not too many features that really set one smartphone apart from others in the modern mobile world. However, Samsung’s decision to include curated ringtones and notifications from unique performance artists does hint at the company’s commitment to put its best foot forward on that front.
