While the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 (SM-T395) continues to elude the market following several leaks and encounters with regulatory agencies, the tablet’s user manual was recently prematurely published on the company’s support page. The documentation includes instructions as well as several sketches detailing some of the tablet’s specifications, and as expected given its moniker, the slate will take the form of a rugged device wrapped in a rough, industrial-looking design.
According to previous reports, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 should be equipped with an 8-inch display featuring a resolution of 1,200 x 800, and judging by the user manual, the front panel will accommodate a proximity/light sensor paired with a front-facing camera, a loudspeaker, and three physical buttons at the bottom, one of which doubles as a fingerprint recognition sensor. The back panel can be lifted to reveal a user-removable battery – which in turn covers the microSD and SIM card slots – and in terms of I/O, the device seems to adopt both a USB Type-C connector as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom edge. The slate also supports GPS and NFC connectivity and is equipped with an S Pen stylus featuring replaceable nibs. Oddly enough, the S Pen doesn’t seem to have a dedicated slot on the tablet itself, and instead, it can be holstered within a protective case which will presumably be sold separately.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 is expected to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and the user manual mentions the inclusion of the Bixby assistant. Previous reports also hinted at an Exynos 7870 chipset featuring eight ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores and the Mali-T830 MP1 graphics chip, as well as 3GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board memory. The rear-facing camera should have a resolution of 8 megapixels and be accompanied by an LED flash, whereas the front panel should accommodate a 5-megapixel shooter with 1080p video recording capabilities. At the moment, it’s unclear when Samsung will officially introduce the Galaxy Tab 2 Active but seeing how the user manual is now available for download directly from the OEM’s website, the tablet’s market launch might be just around the corner.
