Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt Gains Amazon Alexa Integration

On Tuesday, Schlage announced that its Sense Smart Deadbolt would be getting Amazon Alexa integration. Which would essentially allow you to lock and unlock your front door using your voice while speaking to Alexa. The Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt already worked with Apple’s Homekit and Android smartphones through its app, but Alexa is the first voice assistant that Schlage has added support for and likely not the last.

Those with the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt are able to use Alexa without having an Echo device around, simply by using the Alexa app on their smartphone. With Alexa, users will be able to lock or check the status of their front door to see if it is locked. This is all done with their voice. And to get started, all you’ll need to do is make sure to add the Schlage Alexa Skill to your Amazon account, then you will need to sign into your Schlage account and connect the two accounts, so that Alexa has access to your Schlage account. From there, you are all set and ready to go. Now the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt isn’t the only product that gets the Amazon Alexa treatment, the Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt also gets Amazon Alexa, but it’s a bit more complicated. As that gets Alexa support through Wink or Samsung SmartThings. So if you don’t have either hub already, you’ll need to pick one up.

The Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt is a great lock to put on your door and use to get in and out of your home and never worry about keys again. It does have a keypad, which can have up to 30 unique key codes. This way everyone has their own code to get in the home, and you aren’t actually sharing them. This is a good feature to have if you have someone house sitting while you’re away. You can give them their own code and once you’re back home, you can delete that code and that user will no longer be able to get in with their code. Making things pretty simple all around. The Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt is available for around $249 right now, and is pretty simple to install.
