Google has just announced its second-gen Pixel smartphones, and we’re here to take a closer look at their specifications. The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are the devices in question, and we’ve been hearing about them for a couple of months at this point, as a ton of rumors and leaks surfaced. Having said that, most of that info was accurate, and the two phones are packing in some really compelling specs, as these are Google’s new premium phones which are expected to compete with the likes of the Galaxy S8, LG G6, LG V30, Galaxy Note 8, HTC U11… and other flagship smartphones that are currently available out in the market.
First and foremost, it’s worth noting that the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL share most of its specifications, and that the two smartphones are made out of metal and glass. The two devices do not look identical however, as the Pixel 2 XL comes with thinner bezels, and is larger than the Google Pixel 2, while it also sports a curved display. Both phones sport a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, and a single main camera, while Google’s branding is present on the back of both phones. The main difference between these two phones, when it comes to specs, comes down to their displays, as the Google Pixel 2 sports a 5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080, 441ppi) AMOLED display, while the Pixel 2 XL comes with a 6-inch QHD+ (2880 x 1440, 538ppi) pOLED panel, both phones ship with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 on top of their panels. The Google Pixel 2 sports a 2,700mAh non-removable battery, while the Pixel 2 XL includes a 3,520mAh non-removable unit, and both of these phones offer fast charging. Both phones sport front-facing stereo speakers, while Bluetooth 5.0 is also included in the package.
Those are the only differences between the two phones, at least as far as specs are concerned. Both devices are fueled by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor, which comes with the Adreno 540 GPU. This SoC is partnered by 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB / 128GB of storage, though you cannot expand this storage, so keep that in mind. Both phones are IP67 certified for water and dust resistance, while Android 8.0.0 Oreo comes pre-installed on both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, of course. A 12.2-megapixel camera (1.4um pixel size, f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, OIS, EIS, LDAF) is placed on the back of both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, while you will find an 8-megapixel camera (f/2.4 aperture, 1.4um pixel size) on the front side of both of these phones. A Type-C USB 3.1 port is included on the bottom of both of these phones, while NFC and 4G LTE are also included here. Both phones offer support for FDD-LTE bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/20/25/26/28/29/30/32/66, and the following TD-LTE bands: 38/40/41. The Pixel 2 comes in Kinda Blue, Just Black and Clearly White color variants, while the Pixel 2 XL sports Just Black and Black & White color variants. The Google Pixel 2 measures 145.7 x 69.7 x 7.8mm, while it weighs 143 grams. The Pixel 2 XL, on the other hand, measures 157.9 x 76.7 x 7.9mm, and it weighs 175 grams.
