T-Mobile Will Still Cover Netflix, Despite Price Increase

This week, Netflix decided to raise its prices a bit on some of its plans. Bringing the standard plan price up to $10.99 and the Premium plan to $13.99. That’s $1-2 extra per month, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but that’s $12-24 per year, depending on the plan you have. This made a lot of people ask whether or not this would effect T-Mobile’s Netflix On Us promotion and, it doesn’t. T-Mobile’s CEO, John Legere tweeted out that T-Mobile will still cover your Netflix account.

Now there is a caveat there with covering Netflix. T-Mobile actually only covers up to $10 on Netflix per month. So it will cover the majority of the price for Netflix, but not the entire price. So if you are on that standard plan, you’ll be paying $0.99 per month now, which still isn’t a lot, but it’s not exactly “Netflix On Us” like T-Mobile would lead you to believe. Fortunately, the basic plan is still $7.99/month, so that is still fully covered by T-Mobile, for those that are okay with standard definition video and one stream at a time from Netflix. As the standard plan gets you HD and 2 streams and the higher-end plan gets you 4K and four simultaneous streams.

T-Mobile started its Netflix On Us promotion last month, and it’s actually not much of a promotion, but more of a perk. So those that are on Simple Choice with two lines or more and have all taxes and fees included, you are eligible for Netflix On Us. Which you will tie your Netflix account to your T-Mobile account. T-Mobile will take up to $10 off of your Netflix bill and the remainder will be on your T-Mobile bill. So it effectively takes out another bill you have to pay. However, it is not available for all of T-Mobile’s customers. If you are on a promotional plan, like the 2 for $100 that it was running a few months ago, you aren’t eligible for Netflix On Us (and actually need to upgrade to the two lines for $120 plan). So there’s that, T-Mobile’s Netflix On Us promotion will still be available even with Netflix’s prices increasing.
