Twitter is working on more quality of life features for its users, and it has just announced a ‘Save for later’ feature. Revealed by the company’s product manager Jesar Shah, the long awaited and a highly requested feature will allow the users to bookmark tweets and then have them available via separate section of the platform. Shah has explained the feature was a product of Hack Week and showed the prototype of the feature the team has built during that week. Saving a tweet will be as simple as tapping/clicking on three dots underneath a tweet and choosing Add to Bookmarks. Tweets marked like this then appear in the Bookmarks section available from the sidebar, right under the user’s profile link.
So far, users had to come up with their own methods of saving tweets they found interesting, or simply wanted to read them later on their leisure. The platform has never had a dedicated tool for that, so users did whatever they could and either liked, retweeted, or copied links to tweets. But, almost none of these solutions were elegant enough or allowed the user to keep their privacy, especially likes and retweets which are public unless your Twitter profile is set to be private. There is also a chance for creating confusion, from situations when you are listing through dozens of tweets marked like this and trying to remember whether you just wanted to express your support for the author or needed to read up on a subject or link that was in the tweet.
It is worth noting that the feature is still in its early stages of conception so there are possibilities that the company might change how bookmarking works, for example by adding another button besides existing ones present under each tweet (reply, retweet, like and direct message). The company is looking for as much user feedback as possible, whether by spreading awareness among your followers on the network or by directly speaking to members of its team. There is also a dedicated hashtag available, so any tweets talking about the upcoming bookmarking features should include hashtag #SaveForLater.
