Xiaomi announced recently that it managed to ship over 10 million smartphones in September alone, and the company’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, announced that the company aims to do the same in the remaining months of 2017. This essentially means that Xiaomi is planning to sell 30 million more smartphones by the end of this year, 10 million in October, November and December.
Having said that, Xiaomi never managed to sell 10 million smartphones in a single month, until September this year, so this goal that Lei Jun set for the company is quite optimistic, and if Xiaomi manages to pull that off, the company would probably cross that magic 100 million sales mark in 2017. According to some reports, Xiaomi already sold well over 60 million smartphones this year, and with the added 30+ million units, the company would probably reach 100 million smartphone sales in 2017, and cross its 80 million sales goal by quite a margin. In addition to the company’s goal, Xiaomi’s CEO also said that the demand for smartphones still outnumbers supply (by quite a margin), and as a result, Xiaomi’s handsets are still in tight supply, well, some of the company’s smartphones.
Those of you who are unaware, Xiaomi managed to ship 23.16 million smartphones in the second quarter of this year, and the company is looking to improve upon that in Q3 that just ended, so results should be in soon. Considering that the company managed to sell 10 million smartphones in September alone, chances are that its sales in Q3 will outdo those in Q2 without a problem, but that’s just an educated guess, we’ll have to wait for official info in order to be sure. Xiaomi actually managed to become second-largest smartphone OEM in China in the second quarter of 2017, according to sales, as only Huawei managed to sell more devices, while OPPO, Vivo and Apple were left behind Xiaomi, at least according to Digitimes Research. On top of that, Xiaomi also managed to claim the second spot in India in Q2, with a 14 percent smartphone share, as only Samsung managed to grab more, and chances are that the company will expand further into India by the end of this year.
