It turns out some of ZTE’s upcoming Axon M’s internal specs may have been revealed way back at the beginning of August via Geekbench. That’s following confirmation from a new FCC listing that details the Axon M model designation to be the ZTE Z999, which matches up with the benchmark in question. If that benchmark turns out to be accurate, some speculation can be made with regards to where that handset could fall into the Android mix. The Axon M’s premium convertible features – allowing it to switch between being a phone to give the user a tablet experience – will probably add somewhat to the smartphone’s price. With that said, the hardware on the inside and benchmark scores also seem to point to a high-end device at the lower end of that spectrum.
To begin with, the benchmark shows a ZTE device bearing the above-mentioned model number as being driven by what appears to be a quad-core Snapdragon SoC, clocked at 2.0 GHz. There’s no model given for exactly which processor that is, but that does narrow things down quite a bit, most likely pointing to one of Qualcomm’s more capable offerings. According to the Z999’s benchmark, the device also comes with a healthy 4GB of RAM to back that up. As reported earlier, an FCC listing hints that the device should arrive with Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) out of the box. Somthing that’s backed up by the benchmark here.
Unfortunately, there’s still no information on what kind of battery the Axon M will have underneath the hood, providing power to the whole thing. However, with all of this information slowly leaking through, it may just be a matter of time before the majority of its specs are known. Especially considering there is widespread speculation that this phone will be announced on October 17. In the meantime, the scores achieved by the ZTE Z999 on Geekbench’s software also appear to point toward a smartphone hovering between top-end and mid-range. On the single-core side of things, the device was awarded a score of 1,677 – just ten points shy of the OnePlus 5 while on multi-core testing, the Z999 scored 4,130 points.
